Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Jimmy,
Sorry to hear about your outage. I'm in Livingston - east of you on 10. I have some room in my halide lit 135 sump if you think you could use it. The water parameters are good - I didn't lose any power.

In Defense of Bristleworms...
I manage to get nailed by a bristleworm at least twice a month. That said - I still want them in my tanks. I have some that are a good 4 or 5 inches long. They are very effective at cleaning up carrion. Some hobbyists think they attack clams, but they are only...
It was a sad day for Tunze when they had to admit that they duplicated the test and had to agree with the test's flow results. I've watched the VorTechs since they were first demonstrated at the MACNA in Boston, and must admit that I've never been impressed. They just aren't as bullet-proof as...
Olivier,
I keep hearing that Ice Cap is out of business, but I have no personal knowledge to back up this assertion.
I recently took an older 660 off-line (replaced VHOs with LEDs). You can have it for $40 - doesn't hurt to have a back-up while one is in the shop.
PM me with any interest...

Here's a link to a refractometer that was designed to to read from 0 1.020-1.040 which apparently gives you 2.5 times the (visual) resolution of the 0-100 scale that comes with most refracrometers...
I'm having trouble with the numbers...
$428 R/T airfare, with at least one stop in Chicago, or a 17 hour 33 minute one-way drive, with a $150 Entry and at least $91 a night for the hotel.
Anybody know how many people are signed up to attend?
The links are weird, and actually were worse. One path says Saturday the 25th, 2011 and another path says Saturday the 26th, 2010. The latter won't allow you to register. Pretty sloppy web design...
I have to agree with those that consider vermited snails to be a pest. I've cut my fingers/knuckles numerous times on the sharp openings of their tubes. (Not cool if you'd like to avoid gram negative bacteria entering your body.) I remove them ('pop' them off) with a 1/4" wood chisel. If that...
For anyone not wanting a cosmetically challenged DIY, TBA has the Eshopps "Super Spy Top Photo/Viewing Box" on sale until the end of the month. Their regular price is $26.99 - the sale price is $21.95. http://www.tbaquatics.com/shop/eshopps-super-spy-top-photo-viewing-box-507.html
I'm not sure the PVC pipe coupler will float unless you cut it down a bit. You might want to try a 4" drain pipe coupler - I think they're a lot less dense.
I think that build could be a little aggravating, and just a bit ugly. Suggest you consider buying this one - http://premiumaquatics.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PA&Product_Code=ES-19300&Category_Code=.
