first pic are nerite snail eggs. second pic is a limpet snail the rest of the pics are spirobid worms. totally harmless - but if you get enough, might look like your tank is snowing all the time. Ha ha ha.

Your first paragraph made me consider just how many people get into this hobby and then leave. At least many fish can be saved into relatively good homes if they know of club members or friends who can take them. I hate to think about how many dogs/cats/guinea pigs/etc etc that are given up...
