Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
There's your problem - the sea clone is probably under powered. It's one of the original manufacturers to get folks into the hobby on skimming. Some people (after heavy modification) can get them to work - maybe you could find something on youtube to guide you there. But other people swear...
Whoa!!! talk about spoiled harlequins!
As a former clownfish breeder I can say that a 5 gallon tank is suitable if you have nothing else in there and just the post-meta baby clowns for observation. I used a small hex tank (i think it was 5g) as a temporary grow-out until they could handle...
Hair algae is fairly common unfortunately. I once purchased a clean up crew and no joke there was hair algae growing on my astrea snail. :p
In my opinion hair algae can get gross when super long, but at least there are SOME things that will eat it (mexican turbos). But eating the stuff only...
never heard of them but that's a super cheap price though for that amount of flow. I take it they are some kind of chinese knock-off of a koralia or a tunze?
pimp?
LOL.
Is the feed pipe to the sump at the top of the reactor? or bottom? I'm not getting the filter stock, seems extraneous and another item that you have to monitor to prevent failure.
oh and thanks for the bday wishes. As usual my children got their favorite - a carvel ice cream cake.
there are a lot of us in this area....edison/piscataway etc. Now how many are actively posting is another story! :) The good news for you though is that you are like in the "perfect" storm area of having relatively close access to 3 good LFS - aquatic obsessions, red sand and ocean gallery...
I haven't heard of a reactor that is on 24x7. As far as I know, Kalk reactors run on two basic principles:
1) Stirring with a rod/stick. Either the rod uses some device to be turned inside the reactor to mix the kalk, or perhaps it has some kind of magnetic system where the "spinning"...
if only that were true...the housewives of nj and jerseyshore reality programs produce probably the worst of NJ. It's sorta like an accident, you are passing by, you really should not rubbberneck, but you just have to!
I think that's recorded at MACNA. I missed the episode with the Phone booth filled with Yellow Tangs. But I saw in the comments that it was for sale. No comment as to what happened to all that livestock.
I recognize this is a show for entertainment - and I applaud them for signing up for shows...
THANKS everyone! TODAY is the day. The big 40. :p
Brando the clownfish decided she's on strike and not laying any eggs for me until next summer. She also questions my judgment about selling her babies off to other club members. This is all true. I asked her about laying eggs again soon. She...
I just opened the sunday paper and saw the toysRus Flier is selling these at 25% off. Valid thru Oct 1, 2011. Of course seems like they marked up the MSRP...lol.
$37.49 each. Amazon sells them for $40.
Helium tank is $14.99 (i dunno if you are required to get that also).
oh on the frag swap...
The name sounded familiar and this tank was started in 2006. he "dropped" off the boards for a while but i guess he is back.

so it's a tank 5 years in the making. it's still incredibly impressive - but...
I saw these at Menlo Park Mall a few weeks back. I just laughed. I've seen the video before too - it was posted on Sports Illustrated (of all places). The club should get one and use it as a lure in front of the Frag swap. LOL.
it's a 2 hr drive from central/edison/piscataway/southplainfield/metuchen nj.
I think it's kinda funny though how the last post on that thread is from the "director of hVRK" and his name is Taz....so are you splitting time behind our back Taz??!??!!?! :D
