Couple of things that I find funny about this...
1. The one orange cone to keep people back.
2. The reporter says " The turtles don't notice all the people around"
Yeah, ok! I'm sure it doesn't notice 100 people staring at it!!
You can throw bags of carbon in the sump, this is known as using it "passively". You can also use a Phosban Reactor to run carbon. You can hang it on your sump and use a small pump to feed it or feed it off of your main pump.
PS
We are having a GB on Reactors and Pumps and Carbon as we speak...
Well I got the lights for the tank (20" Sunpod) :)
I think I am going to have to change the rock, the way it is setup it blocks a TON of light on the bottom of the tank. I will post some updates tomorrow or Sunday.
I hate to hear these stories (having quite a few myself!) It makes you wonder if things like this are inevitable in this hobby.
Sorry to hear about your loss.
Hi rrcjr1972
How long have you had the acro's in your tank? Are they new additions?
I've had a few SPS that had lost some color when I put them in the tank, but after a few weeks they colored back up nicely.
I'm using ARM as well. I keep the effluent at 7.0 (controlled by an aquacontroller jr.).
Mine has been running about the same time Mike, I have just started to notice a difference in the height of the media in the main chamber. The 2nd chamber has no noticeable difference.
Wow, That is really scary! I wish I had a solution for you. But I am also just saying sorry for what happened.
Maybe one of the powerstrips went bad? Do you know what they are rated for vs. what you had plugged in to them?
Hi Darrin,
How "slight" was the temperature swing and what temperature are you currently keeping your tank at?
If say you are running @ 80 degrees normally and in the summer you are at 82 That would be fine and you wouldn't need a chiller. I think anything over 84 may require the use of a...
I would suggest a Calcium Reactor if you can get one. I got mine through a local reefer for pretty cheap. It's definitely the easier way to go, although the most costly to start up.
I would just use some locline fittings and direct the flow wherever you think you may need it. But if you like a spray bar, then by all means go for it! It's all preference really.. :)
