Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Female true perc laid another batch of eggs today on the back wall. They should hatch between Jan 6th and January 7th.
Will post back here with pics and later how I harvest them all. I have some great ideas from mofib and rc.
The issue will be space as I need to figure out a place to put the...
I have a regular firefish in an open 120. When spooked the firefish runs for his home. Ideally everyone sets up a "bolt" hole for the firefish if they decide on one. Every night at the same time it heads for this home. No one bothers it.
I read that you can try this at day 4 - but the tank is so "big" relative to the fish that I feel that the flakes would just go straight to the bottom and foul the tank.
I won't risk it until they make it past meta and are maybe 15 days or 20 days old at least.
I just want to say that these new containers stink! The old style containers with the orange lids that you tapped to open worked great.
The new ones with this tab that you pull off and then pry open is a pain in the neck. When I open a new one now I dump the salt into the old bucket.
Am I...
aquastik is great. I tried some cheapo brand and didn't realize it didn't work underwater (total muddy mess).
Aquastik is the only thing I use if I cannot take the rock out to place the coral. If you can take the rock rubble out -then using crazy glue works.
Nope. One Hour old /Day old artemia have no mouth. So they cannot ingest the selcon/vit c. I could bathe them in the stuff and perhaps the clowns will eat them. As the artemia mature - they lose some fat but gain protein and develop the mouth for filter feeding.
I am leary of messing with...
thanks for the offer but blackworms are too big for the babies.
Right now 5 are still alive. Today is day 11.
I am not on the schedule that is in the book. Apparently the clowns didn't read the book.
1 clown has gotten thru metamorphosis and actually looks like a teeny tiny clown. It has...
I have no canopy:
The fish that jumped:
Pearly jawfish (first day).
Female Clownfish (no idea why this happened, recovered her and she is fine - laid two batches of eggs since).
The fish that have NOT jumped in over 12 months:
yellow coris wrasse
firefish
pearly jawfish
That's really...
So I ended up doing a 50~80% water change in a panic....and everyone survived! The 5 fish that remain appear to be eating and growing. I am having some problems with the standard flurescent/no fixture on the 10 gallon tank - it is TOO bright and causing disorientation. Will note this for future...
TODAY is day 6
Ooops I miscounted. The 22nd was day 4.
Yesterday was day 5. Water conditions fine. I fed newly hatched brine shrimp. I find it ridiculous to try and get 7 shrimp per fish since I only hvae 5 fish total.
My biggest concern is the bigger clowns eat all the brine and die of...
Unfortunately it happens to the best of us:

I do not dose phyto as I have no interest in keeping tube worms or vermetid snails alive. With my luck I dose phyto and those unintentional hitchers live, and the pretty feather duster dies.
The...

bummer on the clown. My female jumped out a while back...thank goodness we were home. I dunno what caused it since she is the boss (though maybe she was fighting with the kole). Who knows.
my alternator died on me once. I got jumped at a gas station in front of the holland tunnel. It was a hot miserable humid day. At the time we lived in the city and I only had 1 kid. We rolled the windows down and waited 30 minutes - then tried to make it into the city before rush hour started...
Been busy with rearing the baby percs.
Today is day 4. None dead this morning but the water quality is going foul fast. Did multiple water changes and will likely need to do another.
Supplies arrived from Brine Shrimp Direct yesterday:
ROtifer Sieve:
Decapsulated brineshrimp insulated:
