one repercussion could be that you *may* have some things recede - only because water will somewhat yellow over time (unless you're really diligent with the water changes). This will then cause the light intensity to reduce. Doing a 100% water change will get those yellowing compounds out - but...

A clump of LR would typically help promote copepods....a clump that is undisturbed by fish pecking them that is. Even better if you had a big ball of chaeto. how big is your tank and how old? edit - phyl always beats me to the reply...

It depends on what kind of skimmer you'll be running. Ideally the return pump should not pump water back to the tank faster than the skimmer can process in the sump.
