    Lock, Stock and Barrel

Jim, I am shocked and saddened to see this, but can also fully understand. You are among a few whos advice and posts I would never question. Please stay connected, and when you are ready to get back in, I'm there for you with whatever I have in the tank. The one coral I know I have from...

    Aquariums and pianos...

First off, regardless of what room you put your tank in, it will raise humidity in the entire house. The worst room for me is the furthest from the tank....upstairs north-side bedroom....the coldest room in the house. I too have a piano in the room next to the tank. I'll look when our...

    Stray voltage

If you have a probe set up properly with GFI or GFCI, it will do the trick. But I'm not a big proponent of GFI around our tanks as well. They trip when you least expect it....when you are away....and now your tank is not running at all....no heat or flow....dead tank! I'm a "have to...

    Stray voltage

First off, I won't get a grounding probe....that only protects you and not your fish and tank. The tingle tells you that you have a problem. You wouldn't feel that if you had a grounding probe and the fish would just fry. Start systematically unplugging stuff that is in you...

    SeahorseKeeper's 55 Reef (pic intensive)

Congratulations on the potential new house. This is usually a good reason to upgrade.

    Zippys tank

The clamps come in 2". How often do you have to do maintenance? If it's infrequent, I'd go with the clamps.

    Zippys tank

Pete, I can't tell the size of the UV, but I'd consider two larger conduit clamps with SS screws.....secure it to the back or top of wherever it is.

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

Jim, sorry for the loss on the biocube. :( I wish I could figure out your success on Copperbands. I've tried two, and refuse to kill another fish. What is odd is that I have a cousin....long nose butterfly...and he's doing great.....actually a pig...eats everything.

Out with the Old, In with the New Since going over to biopellets, the refugium is no longer needed. In fact, the Cheato that was there disappeared within a month, and the hair algae, that was longer then Fabio's hair, has almost completely disappeared as well. So the thought is to switch...

    Tank temperature

78 here. I have to run the AC in the fish room during the summer to keep the temp at 78.

Today was a geat day to tinker. I purchase a used Eheim Everyday Feeder a while back and didn't realize it was missing the mounting bracket until I got home. Well today I made that bracket for the feeder, modelled off of the original bracket. Half inch plexi screwed together with...

    Dan's 150 Rebuild

I'm running a JNS Alpha 2 that comes with the pump attached. As far as I can tell, it can only be run submerged in the sump. Here it is when I first started with half a cup of pellets.

    Dan's 150 Rebuild

Wow Jim, that is truly running the BP exit port to the skimmer take-up. I only got mine close....maybe 1 1/2 to 2 inches away....the clear tube in the upper right of the picture:

    Dan's 150 Rebuild

When you first start biopellets, you will want to take GFO off line (and maybe never use it again.) For biopellets to work you need both nitrates and phosphates. If you strip out the phosphates with GFO, biopellets won't work. Those who run both have excessive phosphate. The ratio of...

    long turkey baster

I use to have a long one, and my complaint was that the hole at the end was very small. I don't know if they are all that way, but the one I had was. I probably still have it somewhere here amongst the mess.

Haven't done this is awhile....full tank shot. I wish I had a decent camera or knew what I was doing. Here is what I got with my little point-n-shoot camera:

    DIY Feeding Ring

Well nothing can be easy. The ring decided to float away. So instead of using a rubber suction cup, I made a cleat out of some scrap acrylic. I'm using an exterior green epoxy coated screw for the first time. Lets see how long it takes before it starts to bleed rust.
