Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I went to my local Oriental market today (Route 18 in East Brunswick) to stock up on nori, since I was running low. They had re-done the store over, and everything was moved around. I asked four different employees where I could find nori, seaweed, sushi wrap….and no one spoke English. I...
If you mixed two cups of soda ash made up to one gallon with RO/DI water, it is the same as B-Ionic....so no problem mixing them. Just make sure you mix Alk with Alk and Calc with Calc. You'll know right away if you screw up....calcium carbonate will immediately precipitate.
Yep….the math still shows that two 1 inch pipes “fit” into one 1 ½ inch pipe…so you get partial credit for the correct math formula and logic, and a couple points off for having the wrong numbers.
All good stuff!
ATL Beat me to it, but his math is a little off...he used D not R.
If you throw friction and surface area effects out the window and only look at cross-sectional areas (Pie-R-Squared)
So for the 1 inch pipe:
3.14 x (0.5)2 = 0.79 in2
and since you have two 1 inch pipes, 1.6 in2
And for...
Jim, you’ll never cease to amaze me. I have the number for a good therapist, when you return from your fantasy.
I will have to agree on the performance of a becketted skimmer. The best I’ve had as far as removing gunk from the tank….and I’ve used an MTC, MRC 2 and MRC 3…all with...
Gus, you’re killing me! I’d like the Hanna Phosphate with expire test kits.
To recap, I’m looking at;
Dimmed ReefKeeper - $40
Orange Spotted Goby with Pistol Shrimp - $25
Hanna Phosphate - $30
Now, if my wife is with me, I bought everything for 30 bucks!
Wet live sand is still not a problem…either use a big pipe or large mouth funnel.
And most likely you will see a mini cycle. I have always been amused by “live sand’ that has been sitting on the shelf of some LFS for 6 months plus. I can’t see how it could still be “live.”
Anyway...
Adding stock tank water will do nothing except contaminate your new water with high nitrates and phosphates. Very little bacteria is found in the water column. I'd add the sand and let it cycle. When done, start adding fish, etc.
Do you know the trick about using a pipe and funnel to add...
Try McMaster and Carr....their catalog shows RTV 103 in both cartridge and tube for $9.48 and $5.77, respectively.
They have a distribution center at 473 Ridge Rd, Dayton, NJ, telephone (609) 259-8900
I would suggest removing the old because the old won’t look good with the new, and as mentioned, silicone doesn’t stick the greatest to old silicone. I would make sure the glass is squeaky clean of old silicone….use a single edge razor to scrap off all the old stuff.
And John, RTV products...
I’m an old fart, so my “app” is a Bic pen and a bound notebook. My biggest problem is finding the notebook from week to week. I just need to find a permanent spot for it.
That would really spiff up the car! I’m free today and have a drill. I could come by and install these for you:
I’ll guarantee, you put these on your car and it will “get the looks” from everyone you pass. :o
I don’t know??? Is it me or is Olivier’s rock making an obscene gesture?
I can only guess Olivier is making a statement about his old tank being wiped out.
Water changes alone will not maintain alk and calc levels in a SPS/LPS/Clam tank….you need to supplement.
Since you are just starting dosing, I’d start on the low side and creep up to where you need to be. This is especially true with ALK.
Right now your CALC looks OK, but that most...
Dan, unless something has changed with these fixtures, I do believe it is a 120W fixture. Yes, they are 3 watt LEDs, but they are max’ed out at running at 2.2 watts. I’ve got four of them and they all have 55 LEDs and all are rated at 120 watts.
