I’m sorry, I don’t like it when Man fiddles with genetics. Look what they’ve done to the dog breeds…..genetic mutants that have multiple health problems.
Give me a regular old Ocellaris or Percula, and I’m happy!

A couple more questions to get “The Rest of the Story.”
What salt are you using? How frequently do you do water changes? What volume of water do you change? What is you target specific gravity (salt concentration)? Are you using swing arm or refractometer to measure salt...
Herbie’s is OK with me for payment and delivery. I’ll just have to eat soup for the next month! So how do you want to work this as far as both hoods. Are you and Matt getting together on this ($80) and splitting the cost, or do you just want one hood. If each of you want one (and can...
George, I’ve heard the 24 and 28 take the same hood. I know they advertise their LED hood as fitting both the 24 and 28. If it helps, here are some dimensions off one of the hoods:
Two part will last forever.....sodium carbonate and calcium chloride....nothing there to degrade!
And not surprisingly, snake oil lasts forever as well.
The test kits.....no good.
Kent pH adjuster.....that's fine.
Wow Kyle, you’re right about three clams in a 34. You will have to dose Alkalinity, Calcium and Magnesium….and test for all three. I would recommend the Red Sea Pro Alk, Calc and Mg test kit. As far as dosing, B-ionic or BRS or DIY. HERE’s the DIY instructions and a LINK WITHIN NJRC...
You simply silicone the glass baffles to the side glass of the tank. I use GE Silicone I on all my sumps. However some have used RTV 103 or 108 silicones. The RRV silicones are more of an adhesive, while the GE is more or a caulk…..but either one will work. The thing I’ve found is don’t...
Well I’ve only had it running for a day and my nitrates and phosphates haven’t dropped at all…..so I’m not liking it yet! :p
Otherwise, watching the pellets spinning round and round reminded me of lava lamps. I think back in the day (the 60’s), you could...
I have the 1500 and run the drains to each of the corners of a 40 breeder sump. Here’s a picture of the back of the tank, where you can see the two drains and the return:
And here is an old picture of the old sump where you can see the setup of the sump with two drains entering each...
It's not so much the number of returns (although that plays into the head loss calculations), but more the size of your return pump. What pump are you planning on using?
I’d trade my age (and pains….knees are shot!) for youth in a second. I can only say, wait until you hit that magic number. With me, it was around 58, where everything started to hurt.
Here’s the deal…..either a 700 or 1500 will work on a 75. I personally would go with the 1500 and put a MAG 9.5 in the sump as my return. But that’s just me.
The bottom line is that you want to make sure your return pump doesn’t exceed the capacity of the overflow.
I worked on my tank today. For me, that’s a major accomplishment. Being retired is hard work. I’m serious! I had more time to play when I worked a 9 to 5…I just don’t know where my time goes!
So today I finally installed the bioreactor I picked up a month and a half ago. To...
I like your “go slow” approach. That’s a sign of success in this hobby.
Don’t know if you’ve seen it, but here is the standard stand frame that many use. I’ve used this on my 90 gallon DT. With a four foot 75 gallon, all boards can be 2 x 4’s. Once built, you can skin it in...
