Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
I’m convinced it’s a nutrient problem, so in addition to stabilizing the tank, I’m also doing frequent water changes, cutting down on feeding and skimming like crazy. It’s slowly improving.
Arvind, I have the same problem, but I’ve just gone through some major changes…lights, high temperature, new skimmer, high salinity. Do you also get multiple gas bubbles after the lights have been on for several hours? That’s what is happening to me. Hundreds of small gas bubbles covering the...
Greg, not familiar with mypicturetown, but what you need to do is post the IMAGE code. Might want to check this out:

I’ll also clean this up now and once you straighten this out, I get rid of all other tries.
This is wild stuff. I found this link which will lead you to many other links that discuss this. Who would have ever guessed, in a million years, that carbon could take on magnetic properties. I actually went back and checked the two different brands of carbon that I use. Both exhibited magnetic...
Brian, thanks for the info. I’m eventually going to an external pump (pressure pump of some kind), as soon as I find the pump (it’s here somewhere), and drill the sump.
Thanks again.
Are you sure you haven’t confused your GFO bucket with the carbon bucket?
The reason I say that is that I never labeled my carbon and GFO until recently. The way I figured out which was which was using a magnet. GFO is an iron oxide. Carbon is carbon, and definitely not magnetic!
Re: My MRC is Female Taming the Beast
Again, I admit, Im an idiot...is a MAG pressure rated?
So what you are saying is pressure rated gph is not equal to non-pressure rated gph?
Oh, and FYI, the height of the skimmer intake to the pump is about 2 1/2 feet.
MRC’s actual recommendation is:
BL-55 (PW-150PS)
When you go to their pump information on the Blue Line, here’s what they say:
1100 GPH Pressure Rated Pump
Model BL-55 HD (NH-150PS)
Inlet/Outlet Fittings: 1" MPT / 1" MPT
Max Head Pressure: 28 ft
Speed: 3,000 RPM
Power Consumption: 180 W...
The manufacturer recommends 1100 gph pump (an external pump). I am currently running a MAG 24…that’s 2400 gph….that’s more than twice the rating of what is recommended. The skimmer is getting plenty of flow…if anything, I would think the extra flow past the beckett is cause for greater air...
Sam, thanks for three nice looking fish. I like the Tang with the mohawk! ;D
After acclimating, the two yellows immediately started house cleaning by picking at the rocks. My long nose yellow butterfly now thinks she is a yellow tang. All three of them school together, swimming back and forth...
Rod, that is wild!
Just to be clear, all those white spots on the blackish colored discus are the babies?
Another question, and it is probably foolish, if other discus were in the tank, can the babies identify their parents, or would they try to attach to any discus?
I liked the question that was asked about permits.
Youve hit a sore spot for me. And I apologize for the highjack.
In NJ, you need a permit to get a permit. Everything needs a permit. I need a permit to take down a tree in my yard even if it is some thin scrawny little thing. I put on a...
I need to drill a hole in an existing sump. I’m installing an external pump for the skimmer and I need a hole in a vertical piece of glass. No problem with pulling the water out of that section of the sump to drill. The issue is keeping the bit wet while I drill. Has anyone done this, and what...
