Here are the holes sizes for Schedule 40 (more common type) bulkheads:
1/2 inch bulkhead = 1 1/8 inch hole
3/4 inch bulkhead = 1 1/2 inch hole
1 inch bulhead = 1 3/4 inch hole
1 1/2 inch bulkhead = 2 3/8 inch hole
Zooxanthelia produces glycogen as a waste product that the host may use as an energy source. They can live off this for some time. However, they do need protein and fats to grow which are not available from the zooxanthelia. So they must eat meaty foods to get these nutrients to let them grow...
Hey Bob, I no chemist....oh wait, I am! Since most, if not all of us, mix salt by volume measure, just do what you would do for any other salt. The trace amounts of other goodies that are in different salts isn't going to change the volume measure any noticeable amount. This ain't rocket...
I have to agree with scooter in one regard. We purchased 4 ORA Banggai Cardinal fish for ten dollars each a couple months ago. Now isn't that absolutely ridiculous?
I certainly would run the simple test for CO2. With that large a swing, I think it is the major component causing the pH problem. However, the one thing you didn't mention was your magnesium levels. Magnesium is part of the overall alkalinity / pH thing going on. Make sure your magnesium level...
I think we have a few running canister filters...don't know if you would consider that exporting.
We have Paul B. who is using an under-the-gravel filter system...although I'm not sure if he is also running a sump. I'm sure he'll chime in.
And the nano / smaller tank people who have some...
You could use a mag 7 and then go with the 700 gph overflow. With the 90g we have, we went with the 1500 gph overflow. Here's a pic so you can see how small it is:
Also, you could go to our tale of the tank and see the 90g build. The drilling of the tank is on the first page, while the...
I'm confused...and that's pretty easy to do. Having an internal or external overflow is not going to determine the means of filtration. When we had the 46 bowfront with an external HOB overflow, we had a 40 g breeder as a sump/refugium. When we moved over to the 90, with an internal overflow...
Welcome! First off, a one inch Sch 40 bulkhead needs a 1 3/4 inch hole. But wait...what we did was buy an overflow kit from www.glass-holes.com. It not only comes with the overflow, bulkheads and elbows, but includes the bit to drill the tank. The units are small and take up little room in...
Give us some more detail...size of the sump; pump flow rating; type of skimmer.
The tang police will get on you with a sailfin and hippo in a 50 gallon tank. I have to imagine they are small now. You might want to consider an upgrade in the future.
