Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Very nice DIY. Pictures, parts list and pricing.
Great Job!
Now I only need a 200-300 gallon tank and this will be the first on the list to build.
What pump or flow rate are you considering for this big boy?
The 300v is the voltage rating for the wire...rather meaningless in your application. Markings on the bulbs are the important numbers. Bulb numbers are going the tell you the temperature and wattage of the bulbs.
Henry, if you haven't drilled the tank yet, consider a glass-holes overflow (www.glass-holes.com). It is small, quiet and comes with everything including the drill bit. When I priced out a conventional overflow (like you're considering), the glass holes overflow was cheaper. We got the 1500 gph...
Going from a submersible pump (Mag 24) to an external pump for the skimmer (MRC-2). Would like to know how the rest of the world mounts up the pump motor. Do you put it up on bushings or just bolt it down to a slab of plywood? Thanks!
From Melev's Reef, a Q-tip/ Pineapple / Scypha sponge:
Compare pictures....looks Q-tip to me. Also, on Melev's they mention the little buggers show up in the overflow:

I don’t think it is a matter of one being “better” than the other. They both have their advantages and disadvantages.
Glass: Cheaper
More difficult to cut (for the DIYer)
Bonds well with silicone
Acrylic (plexiglass) or other plastic (such as what I used; polycarbonate):
More costly...
No, it’s not too political…it has been discussed before:

Please let your uncle know that I’m your long lost relative. Now, where’s my tank? ;D
Congratulations. I guess this means you’ll be changing your avatar? Last time I checked 125 gallons doesn’t qualify as a nano.
Now get those pictures up asap....we want pictures. Can’t wait.
David and family, thank you very much for hosting this month’s meeting. I really enjoyed your tank. Being able to view the tank from both sides is like having two tanks. Thanks to Red Sand, Herb and Rafal for supplying/donating to the raffle. Actually stopped by Red Sand on the way home and Jon...
I wonder if those acrylate glass fixing kits they sell for automobiles would help cover the scratches. I've used them for rock dings for cars and they worked pretty good. Are your scratches on the inside or outside?
Here’s a link that discusses use of lime in the aquarium, including the source of Mrs. Wages’ pickling lime. Also mentions buying in bulk, but minimum quantities would suggest a group buy purchase.
