    Trying out metal halide

Make sense to light a 180 property with LED's can be costly. Is the 20k too blue. Corals supposed to use the blue end of the spectrum more though.

Hmm, interesting. I wonder if the glass top I have currently can block UVA. Are you all happy with the growth and color under MH?

    Trying out metal halide

Mike I am running the fixture made by reefbrite which comes with the LED's. It's a 14k bulb but I am getting use to the whiter color. The fixture is only 175W. But the tank is a frag tank and only 17 inch deep. The tank is in the basement so heat is not a problem. Only running the Metal Halide...

    LED setting question

Maybe reduce the amount of white? Coral browning also can be caused by too much nutrient in the water.

    Somewhat less common fish

This is my basement tank. It's a softies type of tank. I am making that tank more like a frag tank so most of the rocks will be removed. The angels like rock caves and will not do very well in a frag tank setting.

Rainbow bubble tip not fully inflating

Jeremy if we know the answer to your question we'd all have the most beautiful tanks. However many tank are not even well established after one year and those do have some success have problems quite frequently, sometimes even tank crashes! As you mentioned our tanks are ecosystems. These...

    skimmer suggestions

You will probably get a lot of answers. I have limited experience having used only two different ones. And I am partial to the skimz currently running on my tank. Maybe I just haven't used a better one yet. One thing I would say is a separate water level adjustment is very useful. This feature...

Rainbow bubble tip not fully inflating

When I had a young tank years ago I always wondered why some corals didn't do well while the parameters were spot on. Now I seldom see this problem. Some animals are more sensitive to water chemistry or the biological balance than others. If your tank is only a few months old it's safe to say it...
