Is the skimmer also brand new? They take a while to build up a slime coat to skim properly so the more time the better. Most people if you go through the tale of the tank thread do run one during cycling. It may help reduce in some large algae outbreaks.

You might want to look into getting two powerheads, that way you can go any route you want. We have 2 korlia #2s and love them on our 30g cube.

How is the little guy doing? I have raised baby birds (wild and captive-bred) successfully using Zupreem (Embrace) and Lafbers (Nutri-Start) formulas made specifically for them, fed with a syringe. Four babies successfuly raised (1 conure, 1 cockatiel, 1 pidgen, 1 bluejay), no fatalities. Good luck!

There is also a nice dog beach in Manasquan at the cove. It is a dedicated dog beach so you don't have to be out of there early.

Random maybe stupid question: I put a small zoo colony on a piece of live rock (about 20 polyps) which has now grown to over a 100 polyps and takes up a few square inches of the live rock. I know live rock hosts bacteria to help in filtration and the more surface area the better. My question is...

So far so good with the Remora. It was a bit loud for the first few weeks and did produce micro bubbles. However, after about 3 weeks or so that all went away. We have the tank in our living room not the bedroom so I can understand how loud that can be. We have to empty the cup every other day...

The skimmer is just a HOB by Remora, and the fuge is also HOB. I will try and get a pic up of the back of the tank that will show two different units.
