I have a JBJ ATO it has a float switch which gets stuck once in awhile but it seems to be working well other than that.

that sucks. not sure what ATO they use so it like a float value?

2 to 3 years does seem short for those fish. Mine is coming on to the one year mark in my tank.

Best investment for your tank will be an RO/DI system. This will save you from buying water from your LFS. In the long run it will save you money as well. Second weekly water changes sounds like a lot. I do mine every other week but as long as your tank is doing well then it should be good...
