No expert but does sound like the Black Ice might be a female. My understanding is Females are larger and they like to keep the male in line but normally they stay near each other. Again I'm no expert by any means

I use my Samsung S6. I'm not sure on the Note 3 but take a look and see if they offer a "pro" mode. If so in there you can mess with the white balance, ISO, etc... Since someone told me about that my images have been coming out better (still not to greatest but at least not washed out)
