Ok lets give this some thght.As we know corals will feed on small amounts of phosphates(at least thats what I was told awhile back) so Im not sure I would put much stock in the idea that a small amount added to yr tank via frozen or gel food would cause a breakout of hair algea.Unless of course...

Hey great idea on the bowl and silicone,lotta holes,looks like somethin from the wild west..lol I like the makita drill,great choice in tools! The overflow came out nicely.Will you silicone that to the tank or just use the bulkheads to secure it to the tank?Also what will you use to keep fish...

I use the felt socks too and change em out once a week.I agree on getting the longer ones for obvious reasons.We already talked about skimmers..gd luck in yr choices

And as a side note,you can check with yr township water dept and they should be able to do a water test for you and in most cases free of charge

I think the only thing having no fuge light would affect the cheato not growing to its full potental..which I guess could affect nitrates,the cheato isnt absorbing the extra nutrients which in turn could feed the ahir algea.

I agree with the others that posted so far.Seems to be the old fashioned piling of rocks(rock"walls") are a thing of the past.Open cave type,arches and sculpted piles are a better choice.Some use epoxy and pvc pipes,plastic pull ties,and even small sections of pvc pipe to elevate the rocks off...
