I think my ship has finally come in! I was mucking around in my 135 stock/rock/algae-filter/sump tank this past weekend looking for a perfectly shaped rock to fit into an open spot in my DT's rock wall. And Woo Hoo! I came across a rock with green coralline algae growing on it! Now I just...
On my most recent rock construction I used Splash Zone and had no issues with this particular epoxy. I recollect I heard about it from a reefer (on L.I.?) who used it in his reef and also used it professionally to fix holes in barges from the outside (underwater).
Here's a link to some...
Last week I picked up a Desjardin Tang from Aquatic Obsessions to control my Valonia. Thirty odd years ago a reefer friend of mine first made the observation on this tang's diet preference. He had a 125G on one side of his library, and another 125 on the other side. They were connected to a...
I'm not sure I trust them, but here's one of their photos:
FWIW, I once accidentally had some lime green coralline growing under anaerobic and low light conditions in a sealed 5G drum. It passed away a few days after I opened the bucket, and it got a dose of fresh air and light. I had a...
Avast is a really great vendor; I'm saving my pennies for a Large Spyglass so I can ditch my vinegar dosing. But are you sure you need one? It is much cheaper just to set aside a container (like a 5G bucket) add calcium hydroxide Ca(OH)2 powder as needed and manually stir it up when you add...
I've rescued fish from my overflows by pouring sand into those overflows. Any fish is thus forced to move up the column (but the solution offered by DELxCMB might work just as well). After any of my rescues, I've left the sand in the overflows, hoping for some biological nitrate removal as a...
The last time I bought Chaeto (I admit it was a while back) I put it into some fresh water and let it sit overnight outside at a much lower that tropical temperature. The Cheato actually survived unharmed, and I don't think any of the critters one doesn't want with it survived the extreme...
Sorry for the late reply ~ some how I'm no longer getting notices from NJRC when posts I'm on are updated...
I'm retired, so 3 or 4 works for me...
PM me with your pickup time preferences.
I'm not an early riser, and I'd prefer a late afternoon or an early evening visit if your schedule can accommodate it. My tank lights don't start coming on 'til noon if you'd care to see my setup... Otherwise, I could just leave a bag of some on my front porch.
Tha Apex salinity probes have gotten a bad reputation, possibly undeserved. One problem is about where in the sump you put it. VCA even makes a "Stability Kit" for them that is designed to keep bubbles from forming on the probe's tip.
