Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Sand and rock will displace water obviously. 20 pouns of sand in a 10g tank is going to displace a lot of volume. Let it clear and you can start your cycle and the whole nine.
I just ordered some of this stuff from Dr. Tims. I have not used it yet and just want to use it to help the tank out overall but it might help with your problem. We talked with him down at MACNA and he convinced me to try it. Worth a shot...
Do you have clowns hosting in the nems or are the alone? When we had nems our clowns would feed them so we did not really worry about it. Some extra food is nice, but really it is not essential (I assume you are talking about bubble tips).
The rock we put in our aquarium has changed so much over the years, that the x pounds per gallon rule has kind of fallen by the wayside. The more pourous (lighter) the better vs the solid base rock type.
Great build and great write up. I can't see the pics here at work so I will have to enjoy them later.
What are your calc and alk testing at? With topping off with kalk and dosing you might want to pick one as with both you can run those numbers pretty high.
Get that DI sooner than later...
Tough to say. Figure your tank full is probably going to weigh roughly 100 pounds. There is no support under the tank which would worry me. The wife had a 20g that collapsed on a bookshelf when she tried to improvise.
You are not crazy you are a reefer so we all understand that the more tanks the better. I have multiple tanks tied together so it can be done, display, frag, re circ, and sump. I think you will have more luck and less of a chane of flood if you use one return pump to feed both tanks with a...
I think you are going to be much much happier with the 4 bulb. There is not a coral you can't keep with proper placement under a 4 bulb fixture in a 10g tank.
Two bulbs might be enough for softies, but is really going to limit you to any other corals. I would prefer a 4 bulb fixture, that way you can do softies and anything else.
IIRC salt water was a buck a gallon, I have not bought it there in a long time but that seems right (50 cents for rodi). Rock depends on which type you are buying. They had a bunch of real rock in not too long ago that was really nice, but I don't remember the per pound price on it.
Great start to the Tale of the Tank. Take a level to the tank to make sure it is level, if too much pressure is to the front, there have been people where the glass failed at the curved point. I know that is a heavy thing to drop in a first post, but I would rather tell you now then have it...
Outside the joking around I wanted to do a quick rehash of MACNA and experiencing it (and any show for that matter) as an attendee and not running it.
First off: They picked an amazing venue and had really great weather which just really helps the experience. We never left the hotel and where...
Welcome back to the forum!! The live sand is now dead sand which does not mean you can't use it, you just need some live sand or rock from a fellow reefer to seed it. It might also need a rinse depending on where the bag was and how "open" the bag was. Are you going to go ahead with the 10g?
