With the Vortechs they have a feeding mode which they power down while you feed. I do this when I feed with the theory being it gives the fish a chance to grab it in the water column before it gets blown around. I used to not turn off the powerheads and it looks like it wasted a bunch of food.

You could also get flat worm exit from salifert and just nuke your whole tank. Will save you the time of dipping every coral.

For a short term solution get Coral Revive, will kill the red bugs on the coral itself. I know this won't wipe out the problem but it will probably keep your corals alive if you can't get it quickly.

Were your light on or off when you were looking in? Most (if not all) corals extend their polyps at night to feed (less predators). My chalice has like 4 inch sweeper tentacles that only come out at night.
