link doesn't work. sponges are filter feeders. Do not expose to air and be prepared to procure live phyto to feed it. I suppose the freeze dried dead phyto might work but i personally wouldn't bother. I wouldn't try a sponge unless I felt confident in my husbandry for filter feeding corals.

Per Dr. Ron Shimek - if you can get a pic of the operculum, or the "opening" of the snail, there should be a small "pit" like circle in the "lid". If it has it - it's likely to be a collonista.

It's easier without corals for sure. However the water quality has to be up to par and hopefully the tank is somewhat mature (this applies to stevereef also). One thing to keep in mind is that they can get easily shredded by a powerhead - like your maxijet 1200.
