your sand is basically 50% of your bio filter imo
rock your never changing so that bio always can be moved around once you get rid of sand and re add new stand your literally reentering a new cycle which will turn ugly ask me how i know.. lol
i moved 2 tanks this year easy peasy went to home depot got 10x 5g buckets = 50g of water
put all my rock into 3 buckets with water to the rim used the matching lids to seal it in there
too all my fish and all the water into the rest of the buckets
slid my tank onto a piece of 1 inch ply wood...
i was also thinking since they are snails aka invertebrates if you remove all the corals and such off your rock couldnt you just dip them in copper for like 30 minutes?

was always hesitant on buying live rock specially off people god knows whats in that rock was talking to a fellow reefer from MHR guy bought a live rock from some website put it into his tank thing had a small mantis shrimp that wiped his fish in one night ...
so currently i have 2L of matrix media in my sump and im pretty sure its not enough along that i have 75lb of Liverock in my Display thinking of adding more matrix media till i have like 6L or so what do you guys use to keep your media level high
SO FAR so good the algae has cleared up almost completely few specks here and there in the sand probably from when i was blowing it around and didnt siphon all of it up but everything is looking clean
i have my lights reduced running about 10% tops...
i will slowly be raising my lights week by...
yup it gets bubbles its dark red / brownish i use a turkey baster and blast it off it the rocks comes off in like chumps or big flakes i guess
so i used that chemiclean stuff added 7 teaspoons turned off my skimmer cause it was going insane even on lowest setting blow alot of it around the...
so i have my tank running roughly 8 months its a 75gallon display with 30 gallon sump have about 60-80lb of live rock
2 bags of matrix media
protein skimmer
2 AI prime HD lights
3 x 1050gph wave makers 2 in display 1 in the sump
levels are weird - nitrates are 0 i believe the algae is eating...
yah i just ordered one cause this filter sock business is dumb 3-4 days its over flowing cause its clogged... im battling crazy algae its either red cyano or dinos not 100% sure but its killing my tank
see my problem is my tank was customized by the previous owner and he basically ruined the tank completely after i filled it with sand water and suck i noticed the issues and cant really fix them now without draining the whole tank drying it and customizing it again...
personally i would go all in one like a biocube or you can always purchase something alittle bigger thats all in one or even turn a 75gallon into a all in one depending how handy you are alot of options out there..
but i always went all in one till i got my 75 gallon and decided to try a sump...
had very similar situation once you get them there is really no way of stopping them no matter how many snails you add sadly ive had 50 bubble bees in a 20 gallon and couldnt stop them...
reasons why i never do live rock i always do dry rock cycle it myself add bacteria weekly dip the soul out...
