I have a old Berlin Classic venturi skimmer in the center chamber of the sump. I took the first chamber and used egg crate to section it off diagonally. The closer chamber is where the filter sock is and the chamber in the back is where I have cheato. I placed a light across the cheato...
What can I do to keep my nitrates down? I feed two frozen cubes a day and there is an auto feeder that dumps seaweed flakes twice a day, small amount. I perform a 15 gallon water change monthly. All other params are in check:
Nitrate - 50/60
salinity - 1.027
PH - 8.0
Nitrite - 0
Ammonia - 0
Alk...
Well, I held the YT in front of the pump and a bubch of brown flakey stuff flew out. Not sure if it's shedding or something else. I then placed it higher on the rock to be close to the light and it still will get much flow.
Matt,
Thanks for the input. The spot it is in now had a bunch of Xenia before so I jknow the flow is very good where it is. I have a 36" light fixture that has 2 175w MH and 2 VHO's.

Thanks for the info. The water flow there is very strong but I moved it any way. It has collapsed even more. I did a water change as the SG was 1.030, no idea how that happened. I got it down to 1.026. I may need to wear my glasses when testing. Also the Nitrate was 50ppm and now it is 30ppm.
Added a yellow toadstool on Friday and it was doing well in my tank. The past 2 days it is collapsing upon itself but the polyps seem to be out. It is also more yellow than when first put in. Should I be concerned? Here is a pic.

I have two Koralia 3 pumps in my 75g plus the return. I like the flow now very much. Initially had two Koralia 4 pumps but was way to much for the softies and frogspawn.
I'm not sure but I think the deeper the sand the bed the closer the coral will be to the light. A 4" sand bed would bring everything closer compared to a 1/2" sand bed or bare bottom.
Roy,
Triggers aren't reef safe. The closet you can get is a pink tail trigger. They are reef compatible with caution. This what I have read to date, not an expert on triggers.

I think the more important concern is the bow. If its big. I had a 35g fresh water tank that was not level on 1 side; off about 3/4". I used cardboard and it compressed over time. I had to drain the tank half way. Then I lifted it while my dad put shims under it. That all happend in years time...
