Your average ro cartridge should last you a lifetime if properly maintained. The others like the sediment, gac, carbon block, & DI should give you atleast 6 months before needing to be replaced. (More or less) The only thing I would do with a buddie unit would be to install : a pressure guage...

Did you test your tank before and after to see what's what? Sounds like you may have more nutrients in your tank than you realized. I mean for me I was using rowaphos for years with my other tank but it became a money pit...... so i just stopped one day. My tank went nuts w gha and what not...

I would only pull the shrimp once you r sure it's them doing it. It could be something else bothering em. Do you have a sump?

Pick up a Rodi "buddy" unit that you can plumb under your sink. Something rated for about 50gal a day should work @Mark Shelly

Run kalkwasser in you ATO @Mark Shelly , this will supplement elements along with water changes
