Put in a piece of white egg crate and see if it grows on that. My first thought is that the growth is living off the mold release agent used on the egg crate.
Thanks Juan, but I don't believe I'm leaking where the tubing meets the threaded 1/2 inch rod. If you look at the picture where I show the water in the tubing, you'll see two small zip ties securing the tubing to this threaded rod. I think the water was getting in by coming up the threads...
Well that didn't last long. Noticed high water in the sump again....that is, the first float switch isn't working again on the ATO. Now when I go to pull it off, the tube that is supposed to keep the top of the float switch dry has about a 1/2 inch of water in it!!!
That's it...off...

OK, here's the poop on copper. It really wouldn't stick to non reactive smooth surfaces. So things like glass or plastic, a wash in a mild acid (vinegar) will knock the copper right off. So glass or plexi tanks, glass heaters, plastic filters....all fine.

Joe, I've heard this happening with carbon, which is a relatively soft material, but never with biopellets. Biopellets are a hard plastic.
If I stated I was going through pellets quickly, I apologize, because I believe my use is reasonable. The only thing I don't like is the cost....I think...
