I have a 150 gallon Rubbermaid tank with a 12 month old 250w MH. This tank has been exploding with hair and bubble algae lately. There are two other tanks tied into the same system and they have no algae problems. I'm changing the bulb this week so I'll keep you posted.
I killed off every one of them using a dog dewormer called Panacur. It's very potent stuff and it also killed the xenia and star polyps. Several people told me never to use it in a reef tank but I was desperate. I used about 1/4 of the recommended dose that people use to kill them in seahorse...
I don't think Hydno will kill them. Aiptasia X can control them but doesn't seem to eliminate them completely. Best thing to do is take the rock out (if you can) and blast them with a torch for a few seconds. If you do nothing they will take over your tank.
He's in his own 20 gallon but tied into the system. It made a home out of a barnacle shell and collected every small rock in the tank and carefully placed them at the two entrances.
