Yeah you do want to continue water changes especially when carbon dosing. The keys to carbon dosing is good nutrient export through a skimmer and water changes.
Alk can affect all corals including softies. With mushrooms it seems the ones you don't want to grow multiply at an incedible rate while those you actually want to reproduce never do. I am not a ric expert so i really have no help there.
The accepted levels is between 7-12, I think the sweet spot is 8-9 (and I know others who agree). The benefit of having alk a bit higher is is keep your PH steadier.

Don't sell it, as much as I would love to have that tank, don't sell it. You will be kicking yourself down the road when you go smaller then want to go bigger and have to buy everything all over again. You will never be able to get that dimension tank again without dropping a fortune. We need...

The other thing to check is the plastic white screw that is in the injector. You will see it when you take the skimmer cup out. If it is loose it will spill a lot of water out.
