    Filtration in overflow boxes

I use a 5'homemade venturi skimmer which is bolted to the back of the tank. The overflow chamber is only a few inches wide and is also home made. The overflow chamber is just to feed the skimmer. I have no sump

    Algae trough

Five or six years ago I built and installed a trough in my main reef to control algae. I want algae in my tank but not growing on my corals so I built something which has better growing conditions than the main tank. I feel algae is healthy and if there is no algae at all, the tank has a...

    Filtration in overflow boxes

I use a reverse UG filter and I also use an in tank overflow which feeds the protein skimmer. There is no sump and no exporting of water. A diatom filter is used occasionally a few times a year. There were no sumps or drilled tanks when I started this system. It has worked fine for almost 4 decades.

Best food there is bar none.

I freeze about 7 or 8 of them at a time in those little trays that mysis comes in. I don't add water or anything else. But after you thaw them in some water you still need to rinse them until the water comes off clear. Do it gently so as not to break the eggs.

    blange3's 180 upgrade

OK blame the missing fish on my worm advice. Maybe your fish are sissies and can't handle a worm ;D The copperband should thrive on worms, it is their natural diet and one of the few fish that should be fed worms every day. They live a long happy life on worms. ;)

I have always fed all sorts of fish eggs including flounder and you are correct, they are thrown out in a seafood market. You can even get lobster eggs for free in some places

I get it in H Mart. But whatever eggs you feed, rinse them well to remove the slime or your skimmer will make you pay

Any saltwater fish roe will work. Salmon have a high oil content which is why I also eat it.

Best food there is bar none.

Mnat, I feed the blackworms almost every day but I am happy if each fish gets at least one. The worms are not as rich as eggs but neither of these foods should be a staple diet. The goal is to get and keep the fish in breeding condition and these foods provide the fish oil they need for that...

These are just for a suppliment, not a staple food it is much too rich and your skimmer will overflow so you need to watch it for an hour or so

Best food there is bar none.

Now I know that I have always said that the best all around food for our animals is whole fish followed by blackworms, but I lied. :( Live blackworms is actually the third best food. The absolute best food for our animals, bar none, not even if you go to Mars is Salmon eggs. Salmon happens to...

    Live Black worms

Blange, did you see the picture I posted above of that large cup coral after eating black worms? I feed them to it almoat every day and the thing has grown immensely since I have been doing that. I may start eating those worms myself :P Well, maybe I will stick to fish oil pills. ;D

    Live Black worms

I know I talk alot about blackworms, (I know I talk a lot anyway) But I have been feeding these things to my fish since Nixon was President, (just after Lincoln) They are filled with the correct oil our fish need and I personally would not be able to have a tank of breeding fish if it were not...

    Adding bacteria from the sea

They actually had bacteria in a bottle 20 years ago to start tanks. I don't really know anything about the product but I do have my doubts as to how long bacteria will live in a bottle with no oxygen or food. Bacteria is an animal but I am no bacterioligist so I guess my opinion doesen't mean...

I don't know if we talked back in 2006. As for seahorses I collected a bunch last year on the south shore of LI
