I would scrap the HOB and get a good one for your sump. Paul, redfishbluefish, has a nice one for sale. I agree its the air intake, had this problem many times, salt builds up inside the plastic part of pump and prevents air. I would have to use a toothpick and clean it out every week or two.

It's been 3 years at least and wanted to make one. Especially after I saw their tanks at one of the other meeting they hosted and was looking forward to seeing the new setup bummer. On a happy note I will be attending my grandson's birthday this day.

Thanks everyone. I ended up using the small mag float and then replaced the blade in the other one. I also moved the blade holder to the other side so it would be closer to the glass and that seemed to work better.

I have the small mag too and have the same problem. Also, the coraline algae stays in place.

I am having trouble keeping the front glass clear of algae. It's a 45g bow front and I have the scraper which holds a straight edge razor blade but still not very effective. Any suggestions appreciated.
