5 gallon to 10 gallon

Hey guys! I’ve unsuccessfully tried starting a 15 gallon a few times now. And have now successfully started a 5 gallon. I have some zoas and gsp.
i really wanna up to a 10 gallon. And I wanna know if y’all think I could like switch over tanks? I haven’t done a water change in awhile. So I was thinking now could possibly be an okay time? TIA! ☺️

If you still have the 15g, why not switch to that. Do not switch the sand- toss it- I'd make or buy new water, get the tank temps and salinity to match and then move your rock and corals- I'd stick with zoas and the gsp, maybe add a kenya tree and/ or xenia and let it mature for a while before moving up to leathers etc

I don't know what went wrong the first time, but larger tanks are easier to maintain for me- less topping off, easier to keep an eye on parameters. Maybe you rushed the 15g along too quickly the first time- patience is the key in this hobby

I’ve successfully done 10 and 5 now hahah idk. I guess with the smaller tanks it’s like on my mind more? More vigilant/ keeps my attention lol.

I'd suggest a 20l or 40b. Those would give you more square inches, and room for more live rock which will help with stability. Not sure where you're at in this hobby but either of those could be successfully maintained with a hob filter and skimmer.

I had to restart, took me awhile to get it going again

I may be off, but I think I remember a post with a nice piece of rock with leathers in the beginning- not the right stuff for a new tank. I needed months before I could keep leathers alive. Another post had your cleanup crew dying- you don't need a clean up crew until you have algae- Maybe getting the 5 gallon kept things in perspective .I agree with those that say a larger tank is easier/ better- you just have to start slow and be patient. Watch 52 weeks of reefing on brs- buy the biggest tank you can afford for the space you have allotted and keep it SLOW- zoas/palys are great to watch grow and don't need much- a fish or 2/3 are good to add nitrates and something to watch- but keep it there for a while- it's easy to get into the model of 'how many fish can i have' in this tank- better to load up on easy corals first with just a few fish
