I was wonding if i can add another tank to my display. My display is a 65g and the sump is a mega flow 2 or 3 i cant remember. And i want to add another 65g. What i am trying to say will it make my tanks bio-filter crash .
I would make sure the new live rock is fully cycled as well as the sand you are using . If not there cycle will hurt your existing system . Knowing what other equipment(skimmer.phos reactor) will help somebody else tell you if the bioload will be OK . Also knowing what you plan to keep in both systems will be helpful .
right now i have a 40 breeder setup as a reef. But i have a crp backpac on it i dont like what so ever. So i bought another 65g. Relly just trying to make my tanks easy er. my main tank has been up for 3years and the 40has been up for 1 year so the rock in both tanks are cycle
It sounds like you want the two systems to share the same sump and wet/dry filter?
There's a couple of ways to accomplish this but I think you need to think it out very carefully and definitely take into account what Brian said. I think the easiest way would be for one system to overflow to next tank, then to sump and return to first but put it on paper and think it through how you want it plumbed together.
I have a 55g sump for my 180g DT, but also another 55g Fuge that is plumbed into the same sump. So, yes it is 'do-able'. But I started both at the same time, dont really the best the way to integrate a new tank into an existing system like that.
So many things to think of. I may just get a new sump for the 65g and just have another system. i mean don't thing my sump will handle more water. its like maybe 10-15 gals and i really like my main tank and wood hate for it to crash
I would recommend that you go with putting the second tank on it's own sump.
Yes, there are advantages to having a combined system, but there is one big disadvantage. If the system crashes, you loose everything.
Keeping two separate systems gives you some backup in case of disaster to one or the other. It also makes planning a lot easier.
If you think about it, you are still going to need a pump, and you'll likely need upgrades to the skimmer anyway. The actual savings will be only the sump itself, and this assumes that the current one is large enough.
