Adding kalkawasser to your top off

I set up a PM kalk reactor (purchased during a group buy) that is hooked into a tunze osmolator.

The Osmolator detects when water is low, and pumps the water from the reservoir into the reactor. The kalk saturated water is then dosed into the tank.

My only issue is that because the top-off occurs frequently, it tends to push the PH high.

Other than that the only thing I try to balance out is adding Mag to the tank since my calc/alk is compensated for with the reactor.

Hawk I have the same top off. Maybe I'll check out that reactor then. Have you heard of people putting it directly in their reservoir? Just a little bit?

sure...the only downsides are: the tunze pump will go kaput sooner - but it's not too bad since those oz pumps are not crazy pricey. The other thing is that I thought the kalk needed to avoid exposure to O2 to get the best saturation. Hence the reactor.

You do not necessarily need that reactor - any one could work. The only thing you want to get is a checkvalve or some kind of protection between the oz pump from the reservoir, into the reactor. When I first set it up - the reactor backsiphoned into the ATO... ::). I solved the problem with two check-valves inline. (one primary, one backup). I probably should check them every fall/spring when we change the clocks. Worst case scenario is I get about a gallon of kalk into my ATO drum. :p

You right... for a tunze product the pump isn't too bad of a price. Check valve is a good idea, 2 is even better idea
