ATman 2500 pump

I have a Nac-7 skimmer and today the pump stopped working, Atman 2500. I took the skimmer apart and cleaned the pump, which was clean anyway. No broken parts even the ceramic shaft is okay. It will start pumping for a few minutes and then stop any ideas?

What does the inside of motor body look like? Which is where the magnet sits. Is it warpes or distorted?

Mark, I have the SWC 160 which also uses the Atmann 2500. I had a similar problem in that after a few minutes the pump would stall…..still spinning, but putting out very few bubbles. I played with nylon washers (found at HD) and if I put three washers on the mesh wheel side, the pump ran fine. I think the mesh wheel was rubbing against the front cover. I can’t guarantee that this is your problem, but that is what worked for me. I will also tell you these pumps are known to crap out so I purchased a backup pump from SoCal….they carry the Atmann pumps. The one thing with the new pump is that it comes with a pinwheel impeller, not the mesh-wheel.

Thanks for the info. This impeller is not the mesh but pin/needle wheel type. I guess I can try a few plastic washers and see what happens.

I found the replacement pump at Sea Side Aquatics for $60 plus $8 shipping. Anyplace cheaper?

Try the site Paul stated too. As for the impeller, the BM uses the pinwheel and the SWC has the modified mesh wheel. You could try SWC site also. But they ship from Canada and the owner is still in deep water

I actually ordered the pump from SoCal and a couple other things and got free shipping.

Guess I will have to order a new pump. tried the washer trick but no good. The pump seems hot when you take it out of the water so am thinking its fried. Not sure how hot these pumps get though.

Pump arrived today. Put everything together; placed in a bucket of water and seems fine. Should I run it for a few hours in the bucket to get any oil out or just drop it in the sumo and let it go?

Take it apart if you feel comfortable and rinse everything in hot water real good , then you can run it in a bucket for how ever long you want.
