Attack of the Zoas

So yesterday night i decided i would try to take off some of the zoas that were hanging on by a thread from the two rocks i bought rececntly.

The Rock with the porties went well got a couple frags and put the rock back. The Yellow zoa rock was a little more personal.

I pulled the rock and placed it on a plated so i could rip off the ones that were hanging off. All of the sudden like the water show at the chinese olympics they started spitting water at me. I dodged and pulled back. Some landed on my arm. I quickly tore off the zoas and put the rock back in. I also washed my arm and then cleaning it with rubbing alchohol.

Anyone have someething like this happen? Ive seen zoas spit but not a coordinated effort like this.

I’ve been told to wear gloves and safety glasses when playing with zoas outside the tank. You don’t want to get that toxin in your eyes. I’ve heard about shooting toxin, but have never seen it first hand.

if you squeeze one they will for sure spit or pee however you want to put it

they have really lucky aim also . Its weird how far and they can shoot and right for the eyes. They dont play around !

i know someone who had zoas squirt in their eyes. their eyes got all red and itchy, i think he said it swelled a little too.

Happened to me when I first fragged one a few years back, also. It was not a fun experience. That and touching a Carribian Carpet anemone were two of the worst. Both were worse, IMO, than getting stung by a Foxface at Petco before.

I think its of mere coincidenec rather than intention. Or, are we know to believe that Zoas have eyes now and can fire a palytoxin with guided missle like precision...... I just dont think so........
