Best clownfish to go with a Tomato Pair?

Hi I am trying to create an anemone tank in my 54G with BTAs LTAs and other simpler anemones. As per fish I am a bit confused - I want to know which species of clownfish would go best with a mated tomato pair. I was thinking maroon since they are very aggressive and can take the tomatos but perhaps there are other species out there. As of now I don't want to consider other fish but If it becomes a problem due to aggression I will revert to other anemone themed fish.

i think there is going to be problems with the clowns. even if the clowns do get along your not worried about a nem taking a walk and stinging another nem killing it, killing your tank?

Having a bunch of anem in that sized tank could be a problem like onefish2fish said. You might want to look at picking up another tomato clown and creating a harem.

I agree to many nems for one tank. A small harem is nice to see. I have 3 cardinals and 4 percs, cool watching them school. The cards only come out 2 at a time. One stays back and guards the territory. They switch out every so often but all come out when its feeding time.

I wouldnt be worried about the anemones so much as mixing clownfish. The more anemones the better it will be.

I would stick with one pair and a bunch of different bta's

diff. colorations of BTAs may be alright but i dont think different species will be. personally i just wouldnt risk it in my tank, and i know a 54 doesnt offer much room for them to walk when they decide to, and trust me, they decide to.

how long has the tank be set up? how long have you had the clowns now? what else is in the tank? how big are they?
i would be worried about the clowns he has now being to comfortable and any new clown becoming chopped nemo.

onefish,

Anemones like LTAs are found in the lower portions of the reef and btas are found midlevel. Gigantea and Magnifica are found in high flow areas of the reef, tidal zones, and open water.

LTA's like sand, BTA rock work, Magnificas like rock and so does gigantea. Haddonis like sand as well. Mixing LTAs and BTAs is not that risky mixing Magnificas and carpets is as well as carpets with btas.

Stick with one pair of clowns.

I have 2 pairs of clowns in my 125 and I worry about having issues all the time.

I had the pair of false percs first and then added a pair of black saddles with their carpet.

The female blk saddle is very moody and if the false percs didnt host in a sizable colony of anthelia to where they could hide I think there might be some damage done.

I would worry that the tomatoes are even more aggressive than the saddles that I have and I would rate them close to the maroons as being one of the most aggressive clownfish. Plus since they are already in the tank they will defend it as their own and any clownfish newcomers are going to take a beating.

I think your tank size is definitely going to work against you.

I have a 55 and started with 2 prc's(false) and wanted to add the black sabea's(which I thght and were told they were perc's) I re arranged the tank and took out the orange ones and put them in my sump for 2 days, let the new clowns settle in and added the others a few days later. All worked well except when the anems they hosted travelled, then they bickered, sometimes hard, had them for several mnths before selling them and the carpet to a kewl fellow reefer...hope things work out for ya,gd luck :)

So I will go against the grain here and say that there is no such thing as a "simple anemone".

Anemones require mature tanks and excellent lighting. Having one that potentially walks around is complicated enough - adding more just makes it more complicated. A "BTA" E.Quadricolor is a good choice mainly because it is cloned easily and more likely than not you are not taking away from the ocean.

Also - in this sized tank - your powerheads need to be positioned in such a way as to avoid an accident if the anemones if they ever walk.
