Best material for a Canopy

Whats the best wood for a canopy?

Birch. Oak or Plywood???

Any step by step would be awesome.....

Don't use plywood, eventually it will delaminate from the moisture even when painted.

Use solid wood like pine if it's going to be painted or birch, maple or clear pine if you're going to stain it. Either way I would paint the inside of the canopy with a good quality oil based primer and paint.

What size tank is this going on?
Do you have pictures of the kind of canopy you want?
 
Use a good quality water proof caulk around any seams too.

I believe Lowes/Home Depot etc sell a marine type paint you can get in white.
