Black Spots on True Percs

I pulled my male Amphiron Percula this morning due to fears he had acquired something unwanted. At first i thought Black Ich or Tang Disease but I think it is a Pigmentation change from a Sting by a coral. here are my pics

I have the same situtaion but more on female that is hosting (abusing) RBTA and after reading numerous articles came to the conclusion that it is a pigmentation change from a sting by a coral. i have not seen it on her before she started hosting. no other fish in the tank has similar problem.

Usually pigmentation change from hosting in an anemone but coral sting would do it too. If the clown is using a nem, definitely not something to worry over.

they are not but i think he brushes against my zoas or frogspawn.. the Skunks took the New RBTA instead of these dummies

Frogspawn sting is possibility. Zoa don't think it has potent enough. I would suggest just monitor behavior to confirm our suspicions. Those do not look like parasites or disease to me at all.

i can assure you its from the frogspawn.

When clownfish host in a coral like frogspawn their slime coat isnt as effective against the sting as it is with anemones. They are getting stung and thier natural reaction is too keep getting stung till their slime coat adjust to the intensity of stings. They are somewhat immune to the stings and there color darken. Spotting can be the start of it.

Thats why you have so many varietys of Perculas and Ocellaris, depending on location and what anemone they host their color gets lighter or darker.

They will be fine, dont worry, the only thing is if you put in a an anemone they might not host since they have already adjusted to the frogspawn.

only the male has the spots and they stay in the open water at all times i have never even seen them get too close to the frogspawn. I do however believe that it is a sting. They did host a Sabae which Perished and took too long for the RBTA

They may not host when you see them but the only way to get spots like that is from hosting in a coral.

Thats why there some clowns that are melanistic.
