bloated anthia

One of my anthias has had a bloated stomach now for about three days. He still eats but seems to be breathing faster than normal. when you look at him directly you can see how wide his stomach has gotten. does someone know what this and recommended treatment? also can this spread to the other fish. I have a fowlr 210. ???

First thing, if you have a funky looking fish, get it into a quarantine tank.

I’m actually more a freshwater person, so take this with a grain of salt. Is the fish swimming ok…swim bladder conditions cause for abnormal swimming especially going up and down. If that’s ok, then I’d guess intestinal problems. For what it’s worth, here’s a website for fish RX’s of the poopy variety:

Pete any chance of a picture? It sounds like dropsy/bloat from description but I cannot say with confidence it is unless you give more info. If it is this, people are not sure what causes it unfortunately. They recommend antiobiotics (as they believe it is bacterial). I've never had this in marine fish so can not offer good advice. I would definitely QT the fish ASAP to avoid any chance of further contamination.

I put him in my 30g qt today. when hes looking at you directly his abdomen looks huge. If he were a mammal you would say he was pregnant.!!! Ive seen him attempt to eat the large pellets i feed the angels and triggers. could this cause constipation?

come to think of it. I recall seeing a whitish string-like feces on him the first day. Based on the info in the national fish pharm site is sounds like its some kind of worm or bacterial problem. They recommend using paracide-d or Metronidazole.
