Can we remove Copper from the Display tank??

Hi All,

One of my friend was using copper Med in his displaying Tank with LR and Sand in it.He was arguing with me that we can remove the copper med from the tank.
My question
Is it possible to remove copper from Tank?? If so how can we do it??

Thanks,

It is going to be very tough to get all the copper out especially with live rock and sand in there. The reason people setup the quarantine tanks is so you don't have to worry about copper contamination. We have two quarantine tanks and marked the one that was treated with copper so we don't put anything that is sensitive to copper. I have heard different arguements about copper leaching into the silicone of your tank and staying there for a long time, you can do some research. I would be more worried about the live rock.

Running the water through a poly filter pad would remove the copper from the water. Getting it out of the live rock, sand, and everything else is where he is going to have a problem. This would only be ok in a fish only system.

I saw one guy trashed his rocks just because his ro failed and dump plain tap water into his system reef. Its a risk he will have to decide on.

What about the LR and Sand?? He has to change all LR and sand??

Treated my first fowlr tank with copper cause ick was so bad.
Did like a 50% water change and then used those pads that remove copper, then did another big water change. tank ended up being a full reef and everything was aleays fine.
