Chat 6/21: Discuss Club By Laws

We will be meeting tonight at 9:00pm to discuss the by laws and hopefully resolve any outstanding issues before moving them to a vote. If you have an interest in the contents of the bylaws please review the current bylaws:
http://www.schiavone.us/reef/NJRC_bylaws.doc

as well as the revised bylaws according to the current BRS model:
http://www.schiavone.us/reef/revised_bylaws_boston_model.doc

In particular I'd like thoughts on successors to positions, dues, and voting. Of course anything else you have an opinion on will be fair game for conversation as well.

The meeting will start at 9:00pm and last until approximately 10:00. After that chat will be open to normal topics of discussion.

There should be quite a conversation under Tuesday's chat logs. Try clicking on the most recent Tuesday in the list. That should reveal yesterday's logs. It is possible you are seeing today's logs?

Some of the topics covered yesterday are:
Board of Directors Officers and Directors at Large
Elections
Membership Types (Regular (12$), Junior (6$), Family (18$), Honorary (0$)
Dues annual to initial membership for new members

as well as others. Feel free to check out the logs and provide any feedback.

OK, I can see them now. You guys had a great conversation. I agree with you choice to keep dues at current level for the time being. (Not that it really matters weather I agree or not ;)) To be honest, I'm still lost on the whole purpose and positions of Directors at large. I also really like the idea of an annual picnic. The only other thing that I'd like to say is the discussion point about removing officers from office after missing 3 consecutive Board meetings. I really don't see why board meetings shouldn't be every month. There was a comment about them being once a quarter. That leaves a person out almost an entire year before being voted out. As I understand it, elections are yearly. So if a person is in a position and doesn't show up for three consecutive meetings, it's now September. So the fill in only holds the position from September to December. Then what - they get replaced in December? That's crappy. I KNOW that the one major thing that held us up with the club in the past two years was having board members inactive and then not being able to replace them easily. Definately something to ponder at this stage of the game.

OK, I'll get off my soapbox now, just one last thing - hope the eel is OK, and I'm sorry I missed the chat. It was my birthday and I was out the whole night.

Oh- I almost forgot - I don't see what's so tough about managing access to certain areas of the webserver for NJRC members. There should be no reason people can't help out with website admin and still be kept from other areas of the server and it's content....

Great point about missing the three meetings. We'll have to ponder that some. You're right. Being inactive for almost a year is too long. We either need to shorten the leash or bump up the frequency of the meetings. BRS has them the Friday before each meeting. Maybe having one scheduled the week before a meeting on a mutually convenient day would work (the friday before would be a little to restrictive and would make it more feasible for the BoD members to miss the meeting).

I think the DaL positions are just to add diversity and balance (a few more hands, some more heads, opinions, etc) to the board. Maybe it would be good to have one of these in each area of the state (North, Central, South) rather than the way that Boston elects (totally At Large with no regard for the district).

I also think that a "family" outing would be a lot of fun.

The eel is doing great (at least he was when I left for work... as the day goes on I worry more and more! LOL). Hope you had a very happy birthday celebration! Thanks for your thoughts.

We have an entire publishing system set up to allow people to post meeting reviews and tank of the month... And if anyone wants to come up with something else of interest to post, I'll set up an area for that.

Anyone who wishes to contribute content to the site, please get in contact with me or on of the officers:
