Just a FYI if anyone is in a pinch and needs RO water, Walmart sells it for $.68 a gallon. It's labeled drinking water and has a green label.

absolutely fish charges .85 per gallon.
I bought a gallon of the walmart drinking water and it taste like fill in the blank.

if you can check the TDS of the LFS water because when i checked my LFS' water it was 220 tds

Aquatic Obsessions in Avenel is pretty good .. they change the media and membrane in the RODI more often than recomended.

There is another thread about TDS meters and in there Phyl stated that the proper way to test for Total Disolved Solids is to take it straight from the RO/DI unit into a glass cup(not plastic) and that will give you the proper reading. If you put it into a plastic container then you will get a skewed reading. Once the person followed Phyl's advice they got a perfect reading.... Also I'm not saying that the LFS you went to didn't have bad water. Just adding to the conversation.

That's $21.25 for a 25 Gallon water change. Is that before or after taxes?

Huh?? ... If your doing 25 gallon water changes you would need your own RODI unit and should be buying salt by the 5 gallon bucket.

It is the industry standard, we all do it. But you shouldn't then expect a zero TDS.

Just a FYI. Some LFS add stuff to the RO water like a buffer or calcium (very small amounts) so the water isn't ion starved anymore and doesn't leach from the container. This is a good practice BUT will throw off a TDS meter big time as you can image. So if you test LFS RO water and notice it well higher then you think it should be ask them if they add anything to the water.
