aside from alk and tha salinity your first test didn't seem that bad but that first coral frat looked mostly dead ?

Yes I think the alk shock is what killed it
Very possible what ive been doing,with most my frags is starting them in my sump for some reason my levels are the most stable there
Probably Bird's nest don't like alkalinity swings
No SPS likes rapid alk swings, or rapid changes in anything.
Gradual swings will slow growth, brown them out, and maybe some will die like a random colony/frag, but generally gradual swings don’t take them all out.
Wouldn't the display and sump test the same is the same water flowing through the system
I don't have a sump on this tank. Also I stoped testing awhile ago cause my plan was to let the tank run on auto while I focus on getting a house. The corals in the tank been doing fine but I wasn't going to add anything else. I then saw the corals from @Philadelphia Aquatics and the deal with them. I didn't even think my numbers were that far off so I ordered. As the saying goes - you live, you learn, you get luvs.

yup, sps are part of their diet in the wild and also use the exposed skeletal structure to lay eggs.
I'm glad you pointed that out. I have a clown goby in a nano that we are doing for a friend, that would explain the lack of polyp extension. I pulled the sps frag out of the nano. Thanks!

Thats a pretty fast jump in alk. Careful.
That what I thought as well. I wasn't trying to jump it that much but maybe with adding the salt as I top of (not mixing in the tank) plus the little I dosed the other day cause the jump higher than I thought
Yeah it’s tough until you get to know how much does what. Always better to do half of what you think. You can always add more the next day.

I picked 9 cause when I started looking at dosing I read between 7 and 11 so I went in the middle with 9 lol.
I'd been using Red Sea's program up until just recently, they recommend to target 11.5 for a mixed reef. It was pretty tough to get there and stay there. Seems like everyone else recommends it lower.
