CPR Refugium ?

I bought a used CPR hang on back refugium for my 72gal bowfront. I did not have room under my stand for a fuge as i have a large euro reef external skimmer and a wetdry that i took bioballs out and use liverock.

I really did not like having to add another powerhead to the system ,i had to hide it behind the rock, but you can see the tube coming down from it and it bothers me. Maybe i will get use to it.

What are the benefits of having the fuge? What would you put into it?

And I guess i will have to get a light for it also. But I heard you have to run the lights opposite the display. considering the unit is a HOB running lights at night on it i am sure light will be bleeding into display tank. I am just trying to convince myself into keeping the unit even though i don't like the aesthetics. Any advise?

We just setup a CPR small refugium on the back of our 30 gallon. We put in a live sand bed with live rock rubble and a big wad of chaeto. We currently do not have a light on it as our MH pendant hangs up pretty high. We will be putting a light on it eventually and I keep a close eye on the chaeto rotating it so it stays green.

The benefits is more volume of water which helps, more filtration with the sand and live rock, and room for a macro algae to soak up excess nitrates and phosphates. We don't mind the extra powerhead for the looks, so it is really up to you.
