DI storage container

I setup a RO/DI system a year ago and I am quite happy.
However, the container I use to store the DI water in (rubbermaid can)
is emmitting an odor. I'm not sure if it's from the plastic that might
be breaking down or due to fact that I do not have a pump to agitate the water.

I thought DI water had some degenerative qualities so I did not put a pump
in the container. Should I? How you you guys usually store your DI water?
What kind of container? ???

It was fine until about 9 months after setting it up.
I open it and put in a pump and tube (that I keep close by) to pump
out water for water changes or top-ups. Then place the top back on.
I also dip in a jug every so often to do small fresh water top-ups.
The jug is used only for top-ups, nothing else.

Perhaps I open it too much? Contaminate it with the pump or jug perhaps?

I emptied it out today and refilled it with a small amount of bleach to cleanse it.
Rinsed it several times with fresh and am now ready to refill.
Should I install a tap near the bottom of the container?
That way I would not need to put the pump or jug in to get water?

How is yours setup?
