I looked for 2x4's at home depot today... It looks like the only kind of2x4 are douglas fir green OR kiln Dried douglas fir? WHich one is the best or shoud i checkout lowes?

To tell you the truth I have found it really does not matter. They all work good if built correctly. It just has to be level.

Doug fir is easier to work with. Kiln dried splits too easy.

I was looking at building my stand like this one

but would like to have an open front without that support. Anyone know much about building? Will it be enough support without it? What if I added more center supports along the top ?

A buddy of mine is an engineer and he reviewed the stand that I am building and he told me it would hold over 1000 pound. My stand is overbuilt. This one could support a car. Dual 2x4's will create a tremendous amount of strength. Propably overkill.

One thing though. It looks like they are relying wholly on the brackets for support. I would drive screws though the horizontals.
