i'm putting together a 140 gallon reef tank and planning to keep various species that burrow in the sand. i could use some input on type and size of substrate.

Personally I would a mix of sand sizes like "West Caribbean Reef",Seaflor Special Grade and Agramax Select. The burrowing animals need small shells and bits of rock to reinforce their burrows and the smaller grainswill aid in denitrification.

I have always ran DSB's in my tanks over the years. It really depends on the amount of flow.
Rule of thumb is the finer the better but there will be some areas that may need a course sand.
For the bed to function well it must be at least 4 inches in depth.
