ETSS Sump Buddy 60 protein skimmer by AETECH

I am using one right now. Completely in sump with a Mag18. I would highly recommend using an external pressure rated pump. With the Mag it gets finicky every once in a while. But I can tell from the bioball tower foam when there isnt enough pressure. Other than that it works great. Plenty of adjustment. Mine sits in about 8-9 inches of water. Plenty of skimmate. My 125 pulls about 2 liters of dark skimmate a day. I can go from extremely wet to almost solid skimmate just by adjusting the output gate. It does take a little while for it to break in, so I would give it a good vinegar bath first. I would reccomend it for anyone that needs a large insump skimmer with a tiny foot print.

Only drawback I see with it is there is no way to add carbon on the outlet if you want to use ozone.

I second the great rating of the sump buddy skimmers.
There is now an external available with a gate valve, the first time Gary showed these to me in operation my eyes popped

Gary who?
Phyl.
Yes Gary is the owner of AETECH I use a distibutor near his shop and pop in from time to time to see whats new.He runs the 60 on a 400 gallon system and it kicks butt. He's in the process of building an all in one filter like the protein I have but with a 60 series skimmer.

I run a sump buddy 40 on my 92 corner. I use a mag 9.5 with a valve to slow it down a bit. Works great and would buy another one in a heartbeat. I like that the pump is as simple as a mag pump and not some odd brand that is impossible to replace at your LFS.

My next set up I am looking at the Protean 400 complete sump system from AE. I really wanna get my hands on a wave tank and this would be perfect underneath.

I have the protean 400 system and love it,I don't think theres an easier skimmer anywhere to set up and maintain than the sump buddies.

I have to say I am impressed with the 60. You can adjust it so that it pulls so much air, the foam head will collapse because the drain on the cup cant pass the air fast enough. When I first set it up, it took awhile til I figured that one out. If I took the lid off, it was fine. Its also quiet with the air inlet vented outside.

If I took the lid off, it was fine.

I didn't want to use the drain outlet because of lack of space under my corner tank.

I plugged it and took the lid of the collection cup and drilled 2 holes in it like most collection cups have that don't have a drain. Seems to work okay.....might add 2 more just to let more air in.

I have my sump buddy40 set up for a week and a half so far. I cant get a good foam going. Is it because the tank is new, or it it an adjustment? I have foam/bubbles an inch into the riser tube

rgarofalo what pump are you using on the skimmer?
I may just be that it's a new tank and not much to skim out but if the skimmer is underdriven it won't function correctly.Another thing you can do is play with the air intake on the tower move it into different positions and see if it will pull more air.

I have a mag 7
it skimmed when my filtersock was dirty. Is my sock catching everything and there just isn't much for the skimmer to get. The tank is only 3 weeks old. Low bioload also as of now
