Fine white hair almost like a spider web

Picked up some Frogspawn, a brain and a mushroom today from Red Sand. After putting them in I immediately noticed a fine white hair almost like a silky spider web floating around. Is this anything to be concerned about? Maybe just from stress? Only other thing in the tank is a clean up crew (snails and peppermint shrimp) and 3 real small zoa frags.

Thank you.

don't forget the vermatid snails that are in your tank, almost every tank has them.... could be that, harmless although in very isolated instances i've heard of them becoming very populated.... and sometimes when you introduce new corals they will initially releas a slimy protective coating.... is this for the same cube you were setting up right before christmas? last time i'll mention it, but you are moving very (maybe a little too) quickly with this.... slow is the key to success with this hobby. if you rush it, like adding corals 2-3 weeks after putting water in the tank you're flirting with disaster...

Yup. That's me. I'll admit to giving into the immediate gratification demeon. Will stop adding anything for awhile. Thanks for the nudge.

while they are supposedly harmless - in large numbers (like any "good" thing) - it can be a mess. Look for a small thorn like tube....that is the worm's home and it will spew out the mucus to both reproduce and capture food. I've read that some hermits will eat them and it'***** and miss with certain fish. I do know 100% of the time that it works then I crush the tube between my fingers. ;D Just be careful as they are sharp.

Could also be a slime coat on the pieces just introduced if the where not acclimated and it shocked the coral. Ive seen this if a piece of salt creep falls in and hits something as well. Food for thought :)

i have seen very young trigger fish eat these but wouldn't keep one unless you are aware of the fish's habits.
