Guys i found my old Fluval 305 canister filter in my attic... I was debating using this to run

Carbon and phosban for my 120 gallon display.... SInce i won't have any sponges (Do i need them?) in there just the media
do i have to worry about a build up of nitrates and other bad stuff?

Also if i can run it, where should i draw the water? The first chamber? the refuge or the return chamber?

Thanks again for all your help

Question, I know the canister uses a pump to get the water to the tank, but does it need a siphon to get water to the canister. If so you might not be able to achieve that from the sump.

I was considering using a AquaClear HOB to run the same passively.

never thought about that.... it was plumbed into the old unit so it was downhill. Shoot

Good point

You shoul be able to have it pull from the sump as long as the water level is above the canister filter intake. Personally I' pull water from the first chamber and return it back to the DT.
