Frags and Flatworms

Hi everyone..

Here is my dilemma. I joined this club in hopes of trading frags with people in the area. But now I have flatworms (I tried treating them with FWE, but they came back)

Will anyone trade with someone who has flatworms? I have a frogspawn that is getting huge...a bunch of pulsing xenia's some leather corals.. A rose BTA that splits once in awhile...blah blah blah..

I feel like it is kind of worthless to be in the club when I really can't trade with anyone. ???

What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks!

Brian

There are lots of people who have battled with flatworms and won. IMO - being in the club can only help as there are probably people around you that have some sort of fish/nudi or something that is a flatworm predator which they may lend you. Some people to contact are Boreki(Boris) and maddrama(Malcom). I KNOW Boris has fought them and won. I'm pretty sure Malcom had them as well. Also, TRI on Rt. 22 just had a flatworm incident. I've heard they got rid of them too. You may want to stop in and see what they did.

Hope that helps!

I went the the whole 9 yards when I tried to get rid of them. Took 8 hours to break the whole tank down. Switch the sand bed and saoked everything in FWE. I don't know how they survived, but they did... little bastards! lol

I did notice that TRI got rid of their flatworms..they guy told me it was the time of year...and they should go away...I was a bit skeptical of that.. I also have a mandarin and a six line wrasse, neither of which has ever eaten one FW that I have noticed. I've been trying out the waiting game...

On another interesting note.. Once I accidently dripped 5 gallons of Kalk in the tank in about 15 minutes..that actually killed a lot of FW's. I thought I had actually found a new cure...But they came back after about a week. Talk about resilient!

Thanks for the input GW

Soo.. I guess I need to find someone with flatworms to trade with.. lol

I really don't want to disturb my tank again..It has just started to look the way I want..and I am afraid that if I dose FWE again I will be pushing my luck and something won't make it.

I have a pink/green frogspawn that is just about taking over the tank. I would love to frag it, and bring it to a LFS but I don't have the heart to do it. Although I'd like to bring it to the place I got the flatworms from in the first place..since they got rid of them..after lying to me about them...I was being stupid and they told me to "just dip the clam in freshwater for 2 minutes and the flatworms will die" I actually believed this..I wasn't even sure what a flatworm was.. boy did I learn.

RJ1... (?) from RC had flat worms in his frag tank. He was dipping his coral frags in something before he bagged them. Sorry I can't be more help than that, but if you PM him you should be able to find out what he does. I bought (not even traded, lol) frags from him and my main remains FW free. Don't give up hope.

Brian, why don't you just "turkey baste" them first, and then FWE dip it for about 15 minutes at 150% concentration? I've seen people in other forums do that and they slowly got rid of the infestation.
